Hi everyone, I’m Patrick. I’m 66, a single parent, and I’m coming to you today with my pride set aside because I’ve hit a wall I just can’t climb on my own.
9 months ago, I finally saved up enough on my fixed income to get a much-needed living room and bedroom set from a local thrift store. Two days later, I came down with a severe case of COVID that left me bedridden for three weeks. While I was fighting for my breath, I realized I was also being bitten.
It turns out the "new" furniture was a disaster: the bedroom set was overrun with bed bugs, and the living room set was infested with spiders.
Because I couldn’t just leave infested furniture on a San Francisco for my neighbors to deal with, I had to spend what little I had left to hire a professional removal company and then a 100% successful (but expensive) pest control team to save my home.
Where I am now:
I am healthy again, and my home is finally clear of pests—but it’s also empty. Being on a fixed income, I have no way to replace the furniture I had to destroy. I’m literally starting from scratch.
