Hello, my name is Mirian. I’ve been a preschool teacher since 2015. Working with children has always been my greatest passion, they light up my world and remind me every day of the power of hope and resilience. But like so many teachers, my job is physically and emotionally demanding. In my classroom, there are 30 to 35 five-year-olds, and I’m the only teacher. The long hours, the noise, and the responsibility to give them the best I can, takes a toll.
In 2018, everything changed. I suffered multiple brain strokes. The aftermath of these strokes has been life-altering. While I’m still here, I now struggle with severe health issues, including muscle and tendon weakness, chronic pain from herniated discs, Achilles tendon tear, and osteopenia, among other conditions. Because of the strokes, I am also on life-long medication, which takes up a significant portion of my salary.
Sadly, the strokes have left me unable to continue working at the same pace. My doctors have advised me to stop working altogether due to my deteriorating health, but I don’t qualify for a pension since I don’t have enough years of service yet (a minimum of 20 years is required), and I’m not yet 65.
This has been one of the hardest situations of my life. Not only am I unable to continue my job as a teacher, but the cost of my medication and the constant medical bills have left me struggling to make ends meet.
This is why I’m reaching out today. I have a vision to create a sustainable future for myself and my family. I want to build four small studio apartments. One for myself, where I can live comfortably without the burden of paying rent, and three others that I can rent out for extra income. The rent from these apartments will help me cover my medical costs, buy food, and regain some stability in my life.
The total cost to build these apartments is $150,000. This will allow me to finally have a home of my own and provide a source of income that will help me manage my medical needs. I have always worked hard to serve my community, and now, I ask for your help in creating a future where I can continue to take care of myself and contribute to the world, even if in a different way.
