Dear friends and all people of good will
As many of you may have seen in horrifying pictures on the news
Ecuador has been hit in a most devastating way by the ongoing global
pandemic. The slow reaction and poor administration of the
Ecuadorian government means that right now many families are
suffering!! Not only are many people dying in their homes without
access to medical help but they now also have no way of making money
for buying food and feeding their families. The current situation in
Ecuador has caused food and medicine prices to soar, making access
to basic necessities challenging for most. Two months of extreme
lockdown has made it impossible for people to work in a country
where more than 60% of the population is self employed and many are
living from day to day. There is no government support at all!! The
situation in the country is far worse than the reality portrayed by
the government officials. The real death toll is above 25.000 and
still rising. The situation is in no way under control yet.
Our community on the coast of Ecuador, where we live has been
affected in a very bad way. Here most people live exclusively from
tourism. We are seeing and experiencing first hand how everyone
here, especially the local people, are struggling right now. While
the community of Montañita has been receiving some contributions
from other good willed people many others do not have that kind of support.
Libertador Bolivar is a small coastal community close to
Montañita in the Santa Elena province. Here most families are single
income, an income which also supports elders and children. In the
past months this income has been non existent and the future is
unfortunately looking very difficult with no prospect of the tourist
industry recovering for many months still. Our amazing employees
from Sapa Inka Hostel, Narcisa and Matias are one of those families.
They are a young couple with four small children and they also help
support their parents and other family members. Unfortunately they
have already lost more than one family member during the crisis.
They are incredible hardworking and the kindest most loyal people
you could ever meet and they and many other families like them are
in desperate need of help.
This is why we are now turning to you. Although we are all
facing difficult circumstances, any small amount you are able to
contribute with will assist in buying food and medical/sanitary
supplies for those less fortunate. Even a small contribution can
make a big difference for these families.
With the help of Matias and Narcisa your donations will be spent on buying and bulk packaging staple food products (e.g canned tuna, lentils, rice, beans, plantain, etc.), water and supplies. This will then be divided into individual packages to be distributed among the families in Libertador Blivar. All donations will go straight to families in need. Your contribution could bring hope to many people and we know that they will be eternally grateful for your help.
On behalf of Danny, Stine, Matias, Narcisa and all their
community we thank every one of you from the bottom of our hearts
for your consideration and contributions. We are all one global
family. Muchisimas gracias.
