Hello, I was left with tib fib displacement and severe nerve pain caused from a work related injury January 2018.. To recap my medical diagnosis and worsening condition it all started with Workmans Comp and Concentra..
Originally my work required me to be seen and treated at a local Concentra after I had missed a rung on a ladder and twisted my left leg when I fell.. My left leg hurt to bear weight.. There were 36 physical therapy appointments done at Concentra.. The Medical Doctor at Concentra treated as an muscle strain the first 6 weeks and I was full weight bearing.. The injury became more severe and pain worsed in those weeks.. 6 weeks later Workman's Comp appointed a case manager..
The case manager setup an appointment with a Orthopedic Specialist, this specialist conducted the first ever X-Ray and MRI.. I was diagnosed with Tib-Fib instability and placed on crutches.. The Physical Therapy was continued, but less invasive.. I began to have circulation issues and shooting pain in that leg.. My specialist recommended heat and nerve blocking medications.. I met with my specialist a total of 4 times in 2mths, the last appointment he recommended to wait a year for surgery.. He wanted to see how I progressed..
My Workmans Comp case manager fired my specialist and found another Orthopaedic specialist that would be willing to do the surgery much sooner.. After meeting with my specialist, surgery was scheduled that next month.. My physical therapy contiuned with the same therapist from the previous specialist.. My Orthopaedic specialist had never done this surgery and had made a comment the day of surgery he had to "watch a video and research how to do the surgery." My surgery was conducted July 2018..
I had a post op appointment August 2018 with my specialist.. I informed him my syptoms of pain had progressed since surgery.. The pain was radiating from my ankle to my hip, fire burning almost like a hot knife.. I explained it was happening up to 15xs per day.. My foot was purple at this appointment, with red looking pin pricks.. I mentioned how a sore I had before surgery, on my middle toe, had still not healed.. The specialist informed me that he had relocated my perennial nerve and there was significant scarring.. There was mention of possible RSD.. This was our last and only appointment post op..
My specialist was disbarred the next day after this appointment and no longer practicing medicine due to negligence from other cases.. My Workmans comp case manager found another specialist that I seen October 2018.. My pain was still severe and I informed my newest specialist of how the pain had now progressed to my lower back and I still couldn't bear weight.. He agreed RSD symptoms and condition, started a nerve blocker medication, and ordered a brace..
I seen this specialist one more time in November 2018 and his attitude had changed.. The appointment before he was sympathetic and wanted to help.. Now this appointment he didn't talk, said "i don't know what could be causing you pain." The idea of conducting further test for RSD was no longer on the table.. He didn't even renew my script.. That was my last appointment with this specialist, as workmans comp canceled a follow up in December 2018..
Instead, workmans comp scheduled a psychiatric evaluation that month..
In January 2019 I was sent out of state to see an IME examiner.. The medical doctor acknowledged the nerve pain, but said RSD "isn't a real condition" and boasted how he had written in medical journals opposing the very condition.. He acknowledged it could be small fiber neuropathy.. From his experience, if the pain had not gone away in a year then it was permanent.. He wished me luck when I left his office..
Within a week of that visit I recieved notice from my employer that I was cleared from workmans comp, without restrictions and would be returning.. I contacted an attorney and have an active case.. When I showed up to work that week with my brace and crutches they were shocked to see I needed medical devices.. As a cable technician I'm required strenuous lifting, walking, squatting, and spending 10+hrs on my feet.. I have been on unpaid leave since that day.. Workmans comp had found a doctor that determined my pain was in my head..
My condition to this day and since my injury has inhibited me from walking.. I have to wear a brace when I walk and I can't walk more then 40 yards, without crutches.. I was able to be seen at a low income clinic, that has referred me to a specialist.. This orthopedic specialist is a top specialist.. He has ordered a nerve conductive study, but without insurance or income I can't afford this test.. My attorney has paid for the initial visit with this specialist, and is only able to assist me with 1/2 the cost of the study..
The NCS study is $800, I'm in desperate need of $400 to have this test conducted.. In order to proceed with my case and SSDI I need this test done.. This specialist is Dr. Samani and is top rated in the Midwest, he believes this test will help us move on with treatment and my case..
I'm 27 years old and just want my life back.. I have 3 kids that I have to be able to support mentally and financially.. Even If I may never be able to walk or run again, I want to have answers and a diagnosis.. Workmans comp has stole my life.. Please, any help with funding to this NCS study will be a blessing for me and my family.. Thank you and God Bless
