Carrie Robinson hasn't added a story.
My name is Carrie “Kaye” Robinson. I am asking for help in behalf of my son, Nicolas Aguirre. Nic is 33 years old and is an avid musician, animal lover, & motorcycle enthusiast. He recently began working in the oilfield— a highly physical job that he loves. Nic has always been an amazing storyteller and should have aspired to be a comedian because he has an incredible sense of humor.
On June 29th Nic was involved in a motorcycle accident involving 2 other motorcyclists. Each of the riders was injured, but none as badly as my son. Nic was flown the the University of Utah Trauma Center in Salt Lake City where he was hospitalized in ICU for nearly six weeks. Upon his arrival, Nic was diagnosed with a dissected aorta & dissected vertebral artery. These required emergency surgery. By the time I was able to arrive at the hospital in Salt Lake City (from Alaska) the doctors were surprised he had not bled to death. In addition to these very serious injuries, Nic also suffered a serious Traumatic Brain Injury and strokes to both the Occipital and Frontal lobes of the brain. He had facial, nose & orbital bone fractures, fractured ulna and radius of the right arm, and fractured tibia & fibula of the left leg with each of these requiring surgery. A corneal abrasion resulted from the facial surgery and will require a cornea transplant to salvage any remaining vision. Additionally, Nic fractured his clavicle, many teeth, several thoracic vertebrae of the spine & several ribs. Nic has partial vision in his left eye (seeing only the right portion of his visual field) & detects only light & movement in the right eye. My son is very damaged. He left the University of Utah with a one million dollar medical bill & is currently accumulating bills at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. His medical expenses are far from over. Nic will require physical, occupational and speech therapy outpatient services once he leaves the hospital. Until the time he is able to live independently, if this is possible, he will require assisted living services. The potential for him to recover his vision to functional levels is unknown and there is good potential for him to require training to live with limited sight. Nic will require special transportation as he is unable to drive and special care because he does not understand the extent of his injuries and believes that he can walk, drive and carry out his typical activities of life. Nic is impulsive and unaware of safety concerns.
Because of the extent of my son's Injuries, extensive medical expenses, need for ongoing care, & uninsured status, I am asking for your donations to help Nic’s recovery during this tender & uncertain time.
