Update, April 11, 2019:
All funds so far have gone toward the house moving costs of $35,000.
Mike is in Nanaimo hospital. He is being fitted for, and practising with, his new prosthetic leg. He also has a brace for the left leg, and has just had spine ex rays to determine the cause of the twist to the right in his spine.
He is working very hard to put muscle back on while maintaining a good blood sugar. His attitude is very upbeat and positive.
The house was finally moved into position above the foundation last night. What a relief! Now we need to put in a septic, hook up the electrical, water, and finish the end walls in cement. Then we have to rebuild the bay in the living room. It is a lot, but we will do all we can, hopefully quick enough that he has a place to come home to once released from hospital. He is more than thank for the wonderful help that has been given, that has allowed us to progress this far.

March 01 Update:
On behalf of Mike, Lori, and the family, Thank you everybody for
your support and contributions of any and every size <3
"Mike is responding well to the amputation of right lower
leg. He can already feel the difference made by not having toxins
pour through his body 24/7. If the healing goes well, he will be
sent to Nanaimo to get a prosthetic leg, and have the surgeons work
on his eyes" --From Cindy, Mikes sister
-----------------------------------------------
I have started this emergency fundraiser in order to try to help my uncle Mike Gooldrup after a foot amputation.
Many of you may know Mike as a renowned boatbuilder and designer on the British Columbia coast for well over 40 years. What you may not know is his personal battle with diabetes has taken a toll.
Early this year, he found an injury on the bottom of his foot that he couldn’t feel because of the diabetic neuropathy and didn’t see because of its location despite taking care of his feet regularly. The doctor missed it also until it was too late. Unfortunately that injury was severe and surgeons had to remove the foot below the knee.
Mike is also having challenges with his vision at this time which complicates things even further with recovery, and has lost over 100lbs fighting for his life.
Mike was just starting to move his family and an entire house across town onto the foundation he already has built, when this occurred. Normally this would be all in a days work for Michael; now everything has changed.
At this time they really need help with immediate costs due to inability to work, extra medical costs after the surgery while awaiting prosthetics, move an entire house, and to pay basic bills for the next several months until his recovery allows him to do the work he loves so much and has done tirelessly for decades.
Mike is not type to ask for help and usually offers help. He is someone that I have looked up to my whole life and had the honour of working with him for several years on many iconic vessels here in BC.
If you can spare anything please consider donating today as this emergency is unfolding and it a long road to recovery. All funds raised will go directly to Mike and his wife Lori to help them get through this incredibly challenging time and keep food on the table, the power on, the house move dealt with, and any modifications and equipment needed for recovery.
Please donate today and share this far and wide.
Thank you from our family.
