We the people are Iowan Water Protectors, moved to action by the resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline (aka the Bakken) at Standing Rock. We stand with Indigenous Sovereignty, in support of green jobs, and in support of ending total dependency on climate destroying fossil fuels. Some folks have formed a multi-state coalition through the creation of an encampment called Mississippi Stand in Southeastern Iowa. The Mississippi Stand is in Montrose, Iowa where Dakota Access has almost finished drilling under the Mississippi River. Currently, the Mississippi Stand is threatened by an Eviction Notice from Lee County. However, the Mississippi Stand plans to continue to bring attention to destructive environmental activities at the Mississippi River until ETP (Energy Transfer Partners) ceases construction at the Mississippi River, at Standing Rock, and throughout the Midwest. Oil is over. We must invest in green energy NOW for the sake of our planet and the human race.

We anticipate this will be a long-term, nonviolent series of civil disobedience acts which will lead to some arrests.  Funds raised on this page will only be used for the legal support for those involved in nonviolent direct action. My intention is to provide these funds on a first come, first serve, and need-based basis. If you have any questions, please contact Heidi Kuchta at

***Excess Funds: The plan is to send them to the Sacred Stone Camp in North Dakota. However, currently the funds are being sent along rather quickly after they come in. There are people risking arrest everyday at the Mississippi Stand.
