My Aunt Kathleen is a cancer survivor. She's beat cancer more than once. She's about to do it again. She's undergoing a bone marrow transplant to combat multiple myeloma. The recovery from this transplant will leave her extremely vulnerable to disease. After this transplant, coming home to where people and pets live would be a life-threatening proposition. My Uncle Mike has worked very hard to prepare a clean space away from people and pets in an apartment over their garage. He has made the space into a medically ideal place to recover from a bone marrow transplant. There's just one small problem. Kathleen can't climb stairs.

Kathleen is experiencing an extreme balance problem that makes it very hard to walk without significant assistance. The steep metal stairs to her recovery room are beyond her current physical abilities (believe me, she's tried). After her bone marrow transplant, even walking with a walker will be an accomplishment. Her recovery room at the top of the steep metal stairs looks farther away than ever. But, we have an idea...

What we need is a stair-lift. You know, a chair that glides up the stairs like in one of those old movies. Stair-lifts are ideal for situations like this one. They are expensive, though. Stair-lifts generally run about $3000 - $5000 installed.

Kathleen and Mike aren't going to ask anyone for help. Friends and family wonder to ourselves what we can do and are usually left feeling powerless. While we may not all be able to stop by and help out in person (like Linda - thank you!!!), there is something we can do to help Kathleen. We can help with the cost of the chair-lift and get her into her recovery room at the top of the stairs.

Give whatever you can and help us get her into that recovery room. Kathleen and Mike won't ask for your help, but I will. Your donation will make the world a better place - by helping Kathleen, who makes the world a better place!
