I am the administrator of the Facebook Page - Friends of Rowan County Animal Shelter. I have photographed and marketed the shelter animals weekly for the past 3 years.

On Saturday May 30th, I noticed an older terrier mix drinking large amounts of water in a small kennel at the shelter. Knowing the shelter did not have a veterinarian on staff, we pulled this girl and had her immediately evaluated by our vet. Her blood sugar level was in the 500s. The vet determined that Agnes was diabetic, slightly anemic, several mammory tumors and cataracts in both eyes. Our next stop was North Davidson Vet Hospital, where she had a several day stay to be placed on insulin.

Agnes has been a trooper through all of this and is such a sweet, active older gal. She loves to go on long afternoon walks and is learning the layout of the house. Due to the cataracts, I don't believe Agnes can see much, if anything. Her hearing is great and she can find us quickly when she wants a belly rub :)

Now that Agnes has gained some weight and is doing well with the twice daily insulin shots, we need to get her spayed and the mammory tumors removed. Any donations towards her surgery is greatly appreciated!
