Hi there, my names Aerryn, 18 years old and working in Travel! I'm so lucky to be living the life I'm living as I know how difficult and cruel life can be some times.
I am here today to raise money for a sick little boy, living in Turkey called Baran. If you don't already know me well, my nephew passed away with the same thing... A Brain Tumour! All I can hope and dream of is this horrible disease to pass away!
I got the honour to meet this lovely young boy and his family a couple of weeks ago by just getting to know about them through social media. I respect everything the hospital are doing for the family but to be told and see how different but so similar Baran and my nephews story is crazy. Baran's dad wasn't aloud to be with him when he was getting any treatment unless they paid for a 'private room' in the hospital, and again if Baran were to say his last goodbyes, it would have to be in hospital, which they would need another 'private room' for the family to be together at the time. All this leads up to money and money that can lead to a struggle. For me I would hate to see this strong family go through an even tougher time.
Ok, so here's the funny part... I'm running a 10k to raise some money for this family! I attempted this 10k, 2 years ago, for my nephew with no training before hand and badly hurt my hip. So now, I'm attempting it for Baran, with a couple of months training before hand.
A little background of Baran and his Journey...
Basically, a young healthy boy who had never had bad health before went from being very happy, playful and full of smiles to being very withdrawn from wanting to do anything. GP's kept putting it down to heat and just being genuinely unwell. Days and weeks went by and Baran started to loose weight and his control of balance started to go, not a GP or a private doctor would listen to the mothers instinct. It got worse and worse to the point he was sleeping all day and not even wanting to stand up. A private hospital was where they went, paid for a scan which eventually got the answer. A peanut sized lump at the back of his brain that the family needed to go to Izmir university hospital, which is a 4 hour journey from where they stay. The doctor took a deep look into the scans and said this had been growing since birth... A tumour!!! Straight away the operations began, 7 hours in surgery to have it removed and another 2 weeks to get the results. He needed chemotherapy and for it to be a very rare tumour in a child scared them. He was a little fighter, doing well, gaining weight etc.. But there's always a but, an MRI showed a couple of months down the line, the tumour had grown back, bigger and more aggressive. The cancer started to spread down his spine and into his nervous system which isn't good and untouchable, meaning an operation is out the game!
Baran has now lost all ability to walk and hasn't got much strength in him to hold himself up due to the tumour. At the moment they have given medication to reduce the pressure around the tumour and pain killers to help the pain go away!
I appreciate anything you are able to donate... I thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to do so! I will keep everyone up to date with how training goes!
Follow Baran's Journey on facebook to see how the little fighter is doing everyday!
