Hello, I am Elvis the miniature dachshund and I need your help to walk again.

Here is my story:

It all happened back in October 2013 when I came back in from a walk. I was in pain and my back legs didn't work. I was taken quickly to the vet (aka sausage fingers) and they said I had a slipped disc. It was probably due to the dreaded IVDD (intervertebral disc disease) that us dachshunds are prone to and our owners dread. Unfortunately I was not insured and my family paid to have an operation on my back in the hope it would make me walk again.

Sadly it didn't work as it was hoped and my family found it hard to look after me as they had a new born little human and decided it was best to rehome me to people that had the tiime and dedication to look after me. So they found the most pawsome guardian at the end of November 2013 to look after me. To give her a break I had to move to another human guardian in December and I think I might be staying with her and her dachshund! I am so happy to have potentially found a forever home and a new step brother but I really want to walk again and chase squirrels and run with my friends.  

At the moment I can wag my tail a bit and I do have movement in my back legs, just my head doesn't realise it sometimes. I need help to go to the toilet and wear a fancy belly band to stop any accidents. I've a set of wheels that means I can walk with my friends but I could do with a new set and would really like to try to walk again on my own.

Hydrotherapy and acupunture might help me, and I'll be doing both to those with any monies raised. We do have to be realistic and maybe I won't get any better, but I am very hopeful that in 6 or 12 months I might be walking on my own.  If I raise more money than I need for my care I will donate it to other doggys in need and worthy causes.
