McGee needs $4000 raised for surgery to repair a cleft in his soft
palate. This little puppy has fought his heart out. Please consider
donating for the future of this baby.DescriptionMcGee the Collie puppy
has a birth defect of the soft palate that requires surgical repair at
Colorado State Univ. Vet. Teaching Hospital.
ABOUT
Baby McGee the Collie puppy was born August 7, 2013 with his
sister Ziva by C-section. His mother died 7 and a half hours later
from internal bleeding. She was Kingsmark Unforgettable: the last of
her line. She nursed them to her last breath, leaving both alive but
alone to be hand cared for as neonates. Another volunteer Collie
bitch, Auntie Izzy, (Owain Heirlair Espania) helped to cuddle, clean
and nuzzle these two babies between tube feedings. But as soon as the
10 day danger point passed and tube feeding was winding down a bit, it
became apparent that little McGee had some kind of "snooter:
problem. He would sneeze and cough a little, just like when you laugh
with a mouthful of milk. Out the nose it would come. He also had
trouble transitioning to solid foods and remained on the tube feeding
for 6 weeks. But being a bright, beautiful and highly adaptive little
guy who desperately wanted to live, he taught himself how to drink
like a bird does and eat while swallowing, instead of inhaling. By the
7th week we were able to finally see the problem: a cleft in his soft
(the back) palate which would allow food to go through his sinus
cavity and out his nose. Nothing else has been found wrong with him
and research plus his birth circumstances have proven that this is not
a genetic problem but one he acquired in the womb, as his placement
was next to the already dead monstrosity puppy blocking the birth
canal. It is a relatively rare condition in Collies and one that I
have never encountered in 35 years. In any case, McGee has persevered
and is well worth saving. To cure this birth defect we must collect
even the smallest donations to either CSU (see web link), and two
other non-profits to help cover the surgery costing approximately
$4000, which includes his pre-surgery tests. It can't be done on him
for a month or two so we have some time to think about giving McGee
the gift of a normal way to eat and live by Christmas. CSU can accept
your tax exempt donations to the McGee Fund. I have elected not to go
to any shows, though I have a Collie needing only 2 singles to finish
his AKC Championship, because an entry fee is better used to help
McGee. I would challenge all people who have collies, whether for show
or for pets, to give just a portion of an entry fee to the McGee Fund.
Show your commitment to the breed. Share your love for the courage of
a Collie. Give McGee a chance to WOW you and touch your heart. Here at
Heirlair we do everything from the breeder/exhibitor side, to
fostering, to hosting free spay and neuter clinics for the community.
Finally, we will let you know if we can set up a Pay-Pal method for
donations, if you don't want to go through other networks. McGee
pleads with you to broadcast this everywhere on the web. In return,
with our newly donated camera, we can post photos and videos so you
can watch him grow, because he will belong to all of you who will give
to help save his life. I only mention that this is a life saving
surgery because, as any website will tell you, a cleft in the palate
is an open door for death by aspiration pneumonia and other
infections. McGee is begging you with his face and eyes to show your
devotion to the breed and the kindness of your heart. Please give what
you can.
