Remembering Patrick Skals: A Legacy of Art and Resilience
How do you sum up a man like Pat? He was a visionary artist, a natural connector of people, and above all, a father whose love for his daughter Mika was his North Star.
Pat had an effortless ability to make anyone laugh, using his over-the-top, infectious humour to light up a room. He was the connective tissue for so many of us. He was frequently the first to reach out, to organise the get-togethers, and to work to keep friends and family close. He saw the world through a unique lens, turning his internal battles into art that touched so many people.
Pat lived with the weight of severe mental health issues for over twenty years. It is a testament to his strength and stubborn spirit that he fought so hard for so long. He was a "rallier": someone who would find a way to come back better and stronger, time and time again. Pat’s brother Michael suffered as well, and he lost his fight in 2023. Pat’s daughter Mika shares his brother’s name.
Though Pat's long battle has ended, the impact of his life remains. Pat’s legacy is one of connection; he spoke openly about his own struggles so others wouldn't feel alone in theirs. He asked us to share his story.
