Espen Xandrius Leinæs hasn't added a story.
Hen Haven Microsanctuary is run by Nina Katrine Dahl-Klepsvik, a wonderful person and a true animal lover. At Hen Haven Microsanctuary there were 12 hens and one rooster that all came from horrible situations. There are ten hens and one rooster remaining. Nina gives her whole life to keep these beautiful little feathered creatures alive and healthy, but sometimes it is difficult when several of them struggle with injuries and illnesses caused by the egg industry for which they have been bred.
Nina and her hens need help now from you great people. Ten
chickens
are in need of Suprelorin implants which are injected
under the skin via a syringe. These hormone implants stop ovulation
(similar to a contraceptive), which is very necessary for hens who are
damaged by the egg industry which forces hens to lay 30 times more
eggs than what would be normal in nature. This causes injuries and
serious illnesses for little chicken bodies, and several of
Nina's hens were suffering from these injuries and illnesses
when they came to her. Two passed way too young from complications
caused by their egg-laying before they came to live with Nina.
Illnesses and injuries caused by the egg industry include
prolapses in which the intestines are pushed out of the vent along
with blood, pus, and watery feces. Others lay “lash eggs” which are an
indication of EYP. (Egg Yolk Peritonitis is a condition in which an
egg gets stuck inside the hen before the shell forms. Body heat then
“cooks” the mass forming blockages and lethal infections.) Hens
sometimes lay eggs without shells, and sometimes even eggs without a
membrane, indicating that they severely lack calcium. Since the body
pulls calcium out of the bones to produce eggshells, they are more
prone to
osteoporosis. Many lay blood-spattered eggs. They are
prone to repro cancer as well.
All the chickens were very, very ill due to egg laying and the
life they had suffered before coming to Nina. If they had not received
implants when they came to live with her, she is convinced that at
least six girls that came from the industry would have died shortly
after rescue. Nina's hens were only 18 months old when they
came to her with these terrible problems, and serve as clear evidence
that what the egg industry is doing with these animals is not in line
with how theindustry would like to portray themselves to the outside
world.
In the link below you can read about Sweet Pea who
contracted EYP
in the industry. Sweet Pea was rescued by Free
From Harm Sanctuary in the U.S. and is not affiliated with
Nina's sanctuary. However, the egg industry is run the same
way in both countries, and the injuries and illnesses these birds
incur are also the same.

are-you- really-eating/
Without these implants, several of the diseases mentioned above
will undoubtedly reoccur. Implants are their life insurance. Nina´s
ten hens need to all be implanted in early 2018- no later than
February 2018. As the hours of daylight increase, their repro systems
also kick into overdrive. Therefore, this is a race against time.
They need all the help they can get to keep the egg laying at
bay.
Please consider donating, and if you’d like to give a little
extra, please do so, because the sanctuary always has expenses in the
form of veterinary care and other things that occur when least
expected.
We also have a dreamcatcher, handmade by Nina herself.
If you
would like to take part in the lottery to win this, please
let us know.
We greatly appreciate any and all contributions to
the ten hens and one rooster of Hen Haven Microsanctuary.
