When I came across this site, I did not know whether my problems will be solved. That is something that I still do not know for sure. But I still chose to tell my story anyway believing that there are those who might be inspired by it.
My name is Jabes Otieno Olale. I am 27 years old, a patriotic kenyan citizen who has the interest of the public at heart. I graduated recently from a University here in kenya where I studied Civil Engineering. Currently, I am employed in one of the private firms where I carry out all the responsibilities deligated to me by my seniors. My boss really inspires me. He is a good man who is hardworking, organized, honest and patriotic too. We share a lot of personal values, and that is really important to me. he inspires my confidense in public service.
Besides my current employer, my father has been the source of my inspiration throughout my life. I was raised by two parents in a poor village in Kenya. Growing up as a child, my parents instilled in me some of the most important values that anybody would need growing up in a third world country. They are the values that have seen this far. My parents taught me about hard work and sacrifice, determination and honesty. Working as a church elder in one of the rural churches, my father instilled in me the sense of empathy towards others; he tought me that religion matters, and always insisted that I stick to my Christian faith. My parents demonstrated to me that, in life, you get what you give, and that self discipline and intergity are important. Above all, it was my 99 year grandmother who ever told me that one should always treat strangers with love and respect, and to always show empathy towards those in need. For among those who are strange "might be Jesus in disguise," she said.
Even though my parents were deeply religious and hardworking, they were far from perfect. My sibblings and I never lived a perfect life either. There were instances when we could go without meals, or stay home for longer periods due lack of school fees. As a result, many of my sibblings did not have the opportunity to proceed to College. Even worse, some never attended secondary schools. This was partly due to failure in public policies both at national and constituency levels. I my community, I see poverty and all its manifesfestations everywhere: drug abuse, juvenille crime, illitracy and high mortality rates due to the scourage of HIV/AIDS among others. I live in a community where many people of my generation have lost hope. Especially those that never had committed parents as mine, or those who grew in disfunctional homes. This situation has even gotten worse with orphans; those who have been raised by single parents or with no parents at all. I pray for them every single time a get down on my knees.
I believe people should be given an opportunity to rise to thier full potential. Throughout my 27 years of life under the sun, I have understood that given a fair shot, everyone will rise to thier full potential and, in the process, give thier fair share to the community, country or humanity that gave them that chance. I know that the socio-economic problems affecting the people of my constutuency can be solved. And I believe in the free enterprise system as the uncontestable engine of growth, but also recognize that the problems of illitracy, disease and poverty affecting many communities in rural africa, require a collaborative approach. It needs the efforts of everyone, more so those in political leadership.
I believe that the current Member of Parliament of my constituency and all his predecessors are good people. I believe that they have tried thier best in making our constituents feel better. However, I truely believe that they are yet to understand what the real problems are and so, in part, they have constantly failed to tackle the aforementioned challenges. I believe people should have access to clean water, quality education, proper housing and better healthcare. I also believe in a society that recognizes the role of women and believes in the rule of law. These are some of the policies that I will pursue by cooperating with both the central and county governments to build roads and bridges, schools and hospitals. Every child deserves a quality education, and so, I will ensure that every child has access to education grants which has been made possible through Constituency Development Fund (CDF) yet not available due to rampant corruption in the CDF offices. Through these policies, we will fully deal with illitracy and healthcare problems.
I believe that the only way to tackle poverty is by creating jobs so that everybody can participate in the economy. And by rolling out new infrastructural projects in the constituency, many will be employed and thus improve thier standards of living. More importantly, dealing with rampant corruption that takes places among the constituency officials will be key to achieving these goals. This is because corruption, rampant as it is currently especially in the management of CDF, robes us not not just huge sums of money, but thousands of jobs annually.
Now, after all that I have said, everyone would be asking why money, and why must he or she give it out to this cause. First and foremost, I will run for the 2017 parliamentary elections for Awendo Constituency here in Kenya. And, while free enterprise system is good as it is, it has made it impossible to solve any problem without using money. Throughout the world, money has been key in politics and the transformation of societies. For far too long, from the Americas to Europe, Asia to Africa, elections have been bought by selfish and ruthless people who are only interested at thier own gain at the expense of others including those that they purport to represent. These are the people who would find thier way and achieve thier means through hook and crook, and this is not unique to my constituency. Therefore, we must be vigilant and must know how to defend ourselves against such types of people. Because civilized values are not furthered if we are forced to to surrender to those who are crafty and strong. As a matter of fact, being pacifist in the face of such wolves is the source of endless tragedy.
I know there are good folks and organizations out there who might be willing to stand with me in this cause. I ask you for your support, becuase with your money or any other donnation that might help, I will further this cause. I am confident that with enough support, I will win this race. I know this society so well; I identify with many people here. I am saying so becuase it was here, six years ago, that I volunteered as a community teacher. It was here that I first had my experience as an organizer where i worked with people of every walk of life to enable a new, feeble and dilapitated mixed secondary school stand. This school has now sent several young people, boys and girls, to various universities and colleges around the country.
I promise that I will use your money wisely and carefully. This money will only be used for campaigning. I will use it to hire campaign staff, purchase Public Address system (PA), organize campaign rallies, book parks and town halls and fuel hired vehicles for touring the constituency while addressing my supporters and mobilize voters. These will ensure that my campign is successful so as to have the ability to solve the aforementioned challenges.
So I ask for your support, everyone. Please help in whatever way you can. I promise that I will manage your money well. Throughout this campign, you will make your voice hard by donating anything however small it might be. Finally, I believe our problems despite our backgrounds and ethnicity are shared. We have a common destiny as human beings. I believe that the problems affecting people in the Americas are my own, even when I live so many miles away in africa. I believe my problem is yours even though you and I may be oceans appart.
So, please help. Thank you.
