Hidden hunger affects 4 out of 10 people worldwide, trapping them in cycles of illness and poverty.
Thrive for Good empowers communities to break free from these cycles by teaching and equipping them to grow an abundance of organic food sustainably.
We call the agricultural projects “Life Gardens” because they provide a foundation for flourishing. Gardens give people security, health, income, and a future.
Our solution is simple: Thrive provides training, simple tools, and starter seeds, the essentials for growing healthy, disease-fighting foods for a lifetime cost of only US $15 per person.
The outcomes are transformative. Families get ahead. Children flourish and reach their potential. People have hope for a better future.
When people grow their own nutritious food, they thrive!
The benefits of Thrive for Good gardens are:
- Health: Communities growing Life Gardens see an average 75% reduction in malaria (a top cause of child mortality)
- Income: Community members miss fewer days of work because they are stronger and healthier. Thrive also trains people to generate income by selling the surplus from their harvests.
- Savings: With nutrition from Life Gardens, community members spend less on out-of-pocket medical expenses and food. They are shown how to ‘bank’ the savings and use them to sustain and expand their garden.
- Child development: Well-nourished children can attend school and get the nutrients they need to grow and develop.
- Security: When people have the security that comes from growing their own nutritious food, they have stability and can work toward a brighter future.
- Empowerment: When people create Life Gardens to feed their communities and families, they realize their own potential. They have the confidence and skills to take on more challenges and make more meaningful changes.
Thrive for Good’s focus is concentrated in Africa and South Asia, where the largest populations live in extreme poverty. In these regions, the growing season allows us to produce food year-round.
Every area has unique challenges to growing, but Thrive can set up gardens anywhere land, sun, and water are available.
- 100 square feet of land (the size of a small bedroom) per person
- 6 hours of daily sunlight
- Minimum required rainfall (500 mm/20 inches a year)
Thrive for Good projects are fast to start, too, so they can be established in areas where food shortages are anticipated. It takes just three months to develop flourishing gardens.
From our founding, Thrive for Good has committed to a bold promise: 100% of your donations go directly to funding programs and operations. Donations cover training, seeds, and basic materials for community gardens. Every donation is spent in the communities where Thrive works.
