Help plant trees with Forests Without Frontiers
Plant trees with us this Spring in Romania and the UK
We have planted 40,000 trees in Romania so far, and we are now fundraising to plant at least 20,000 more trees this Spring in both Romania and the UK.
8 April 2021
Help us to plant 20,000 trees in Spring 2021! We aim to plant at
least 15,000 native mixed-species trees, including beech, fir, spruce
and sycamore, at our reforestation site in the Romanian Carpathians -
the plantations are going ahead in the next few weeks and we urgently
need your help to plant as many trees as we can!
We are also thrilled to announce Forests Without Frontiers'
first UK-based project, supporting our partner Farm Under the Radar to
plant 5,000 native mixed-species trees including oak, rowan,
hazel, blackthorn, hawthorn, field maple, and silver birch. Trees
are planted and maintained using traditional forestry and
hedge-laying methods with a vision to extend wildlife corridors and
increase biodiversity.
Whilst these are difficult times, it is important that we do
what we can for nature. With deforestation around the world at record
levels, global wildfires, the climate in meltdown and increased risks
of pandemics, there has never been a more important time to plant
trees and protect forests and wildlife.
Watch below the video from our Autumn 2020 plantation.
Who we are:
We are Forests Without Frontiers, a non-profit based in both Romania and the UK. We are planting trees for future generations and protecting forests with the support of global musicians and artists.
Our work is more urgent than ever and the potential is huge - we have access to hundreds of hectares of degraded land for large-scale planting in Romania, and are developing smaller-scale rewildling partnerships in the UK.
Please help us to plant 1 million trees by 2025.
"Many admirable environmental projects do excellent work on tree-planting... Forests Without Frontiers [is one of my] favourites." John Vidal, The Guardian
Why plant trees?
Planting trees is one of the best things we can do to help fight climate change because they absorb the carbon from the atmosphere which is now at the highest level in over 800,000 years. Carbon sequestration through informed, responsible and sustainable tree planting is increasingly recognised as a key component in addressing the climate crisis and protecting our planet, especially where this is done in tandem with rebuilding wildlife corridors and protecting biodiversity havens.
Why with us?
FWF plants in an informed, responsible and sustainable way. In Romania, we are reforesting degraded areas through sensitive large-scale mixed-species tree planting (never monocultures) that buffer and extend existing forests. We are supporting our conservation partners FCC in protecting a significant surface of the Carpathian forests and creating the largest Natural Park in Europe, protected for future generations. We are committed to supporting local communities living in the areas around our plantations, and a local workforce is always used for the nurseries, planting and care of the saplings.
In the UK, we are launching new partnerships focused on rebuilding wildlife corridors and biodiversity havens, with a commitment to community-orientated education and cultural initiatives.
Music and the arts are central to our work, including using folkloric traditions and sounds as a means to engage and inspire people to take action.
Why Romania and why the UK?
The Carpathian Mountains in Romania are home to the largest unfragmented virgin forests left in Europe and many rare and endangered species, including the biggest populations of brown bear, wolves and lynx on the continent. But uncontrolled logging has decimated vast areas in what ecologists call the biggest crisis of nature protection in Europe today.
This catastrophe is why Forests Without Frontiers was set up, and where we have land available to plant at scale, but as we are also based in the UK where most of our ancient landscapes have already been lost, we are developing new partnerships to rebuild wildlife havens and restore biodiversity.
What does your £2 per tree cover?
The costs of planting in Romania are significantly lower than in Western Europe due to lower labour, saplings and tool costs – which means we can plant trees at a lower cost per hectare, increasing our impact and representing good value for money. Our goal is to plant as many trees as possible, which is why we’re keeping the price of one tree at just £2 for our UK projects too.
We operate all our core, tree planting, ongoing tree care and project development costs based on a £2 per tree calculation.
We are a non-profit CIC registered in the UK, and in the process
of becoming a registered charity in Romania, and donations are
eligible for tax relief.
What can you receive for your donation?
The main benefit of donating is planting trees, and working to become carbon positive, but we have a range of optional perks that you can choose from, according to your donation (please let us know if do not want any particular perks).
We are excited to announce that all donations above £20 will receive SEEDS, who we are joining forces with for this campaign.
SEEDS is an alternative financial system that’s designed to be equitable for the people and regenerative for the planet, and they are generously donating 2000 SEEDS for every donation to Forests Without Frontiers.

Nico de Transilvania, founder of
Forests Without Frontiers, is creating a new Mix for the Spring 2021
campaign as a gift to all our supporters, which will be made available
as a free download.
All perks will be sent at the end of the campaign.
How can you get involved?
You can get involved in lots of ways: donate, share the campaign, visit our fundraising page, start your own fundraiser, become a patron, partner or ambassador and spread the word using the #forestswithoutfrontiers hashtag. We also work with organisations looking to make a positive contribution to the Earth in different ways.

Help us bring nature back to life and people back to nature
With love and gratitude, Nicoleta and the team at Forests Without Frontiers
“I believe that reforestation is everybody’s responsibility. We can’t keep taking from nature without giving back – the Earth needs us to act now. The restoration of the natural world and our communities is key to a thriving planet for all. As an artist, using music and arts seems a natural way to bring people together, spread the message, and empower creative action. I encourage you all to join us and become the voice of the forest."
