Dale's team hasn't added a story.
After 40 years of trying to help the poor in the developing world we feel that life gardens is the best investments anyone can make. For pennies a day per person individuals can people learn how to sustainably grow the best disease-fighting foods and herbs to create a healthy future.
Thrive on Kilimanjaro seeks to raise awareness of Thrive’s work and raise $500,000 to plant 5,000 Life Gardens.
The Virtual Climb
Thrive on Kilimanjaro was a virtual fundraiser with a goal of raising $500,000 – enough to plant 5,000 Life Gardens impacting 200,000 people! Participants joined us from around the world to help climb the 19,340 feet to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro between September 17 - 23, 2021
Did you know that our wonderful participants helped us climb up and down Mt. Kilimanjaro 22 times virtually?
Our total virtual elevation was 858,460 ft!

Even though the virtual climb is over, there is still time to donate to help us reach our goal of raising $500,000 to plant 5,000 Life Gardens!
We will be running this campaign until the end of this year, so please share with anyone you think might be interested in becoming a world changer. Together we can help eradicate world hunger and provide communities with fresh, organic, disease-fighting foods.
There is still time! Collectively we can reach our goal!

The Live Climb
One of the most exciting aspects of our Thrive on Kilimanjaro Fundraiser was the LIVE climb which coincided with the virtual climb—led by the founder of Thrive and co-founder of Natural Calm Canada, Dale Bolton.
It has long been a dream of Dale’s to climb Mt.Kilimanjaro, and this was the year his dream became a reality. On September 21st Dale and his team successfully summited Mt. Kilimanjaro! What an incredible accomplishment!! Well done, team.
“In my 68 years,” said Dale, “climbing Kilimanjaro was one of the biggest highs, spiritually, physically, and relationally as we worked together to reach the summit. The mountain completely emptied us and filled us up at the same time. The convergence of all three was so powerful.”
Did you know that it takes a total of 154,720 steps to climb to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro and back down?

The Problem
2 billion people – including 33% of children – aren’t getting enough life-giving nutrients to reach their full potential and fight disease.
The problem is “hidden hunger” — a chronic lack of vitamins, minerals and micronutrients only whole foods can deliver. Hidden hunger shows up when the first priority is to get food in bellies, and “nutrition” means meal after meal of processed, white grains and corn.
Hidden hunger keeps people from escaping extreme poverty. It causes kids to miss school. It prevents adults from working when they’re chronically ill. And it orphans too many children.
Until now, a nutrient-dense diet has seemed out of reach for the poor.
But with Life Gardens, anyone can grow health.

What is a Life Garden?
A Life Garden, a unique term used at Thrive for Good, refers to an organic, bio-intensive garden intentionally cultivated to grow the most nutrient-dense foods and natural, medicinal plants. It is typically a quarter acre of about 40, 100sqft double dug garden beds where communities can grow healthy, organic, disease-fighting foods, including spinach, kale, onions, garlic, carrots, natural medicines, and more!
Each Life Garden provides:
- 40 community members (indirect beneficiaries) benefiting from the harvests
- 12 trained project members (direct beneficiaries) that maintain the project
- 105 healthy, nutritious meals produced each day and approximately 40,000 per year
- The value of food produced each year approximately $15,000 USD (based on $.38 per meal)

Highlights
See all activity22We made it to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro and safely back down!
Day 1 of the climb! We will travel 2 hours to the mountain and hike 5 hours today in a rainforest.
Today I want to mention faith which has to do with the actions that I want to do today. In order to climb Mount Kilimanjaro I need to find something inside of me that is bigger than myself. Because of the faith that I have I often repeat "The Lord is my strength" to myself over and over.
As we start our climb today, I hope you are lacing up your shoes to join us virtually so that we can still be a community together accomplishing a common goal.

Our Kilimanjaro team has been united!

Greetings from Tanzania Airport!

The day before flying out!
Why is this trip meaningful for me? Some of my best friends are
joining me in this climb and I know it is going to be a lot of fun. I
look forward to seeing how we come together and work together to
accomplish something pretty big. It is similar to our Life Garden
projects in East Africa where a community comes together to grow
healthy food. We want to bring more people together to create change.
Blessings

My second last day before leaving for Kilimanjaro.
I find inspiration when I go on walks. I am not trying to solve
problems during my strolls but I find that I get answers to things
that I wasn't even looking for, it's quite incredible. So I encourage
you to take some time to go on a walk today and think about how you
can help those in need.
Hakuna Matata!

More thoughts as I prepare to climb! Only 50% of people make it to the top of the mountain, but I have hope as I train for the climb. Hope is important. One-third of the world is running out of hope. We can give them hope by donating just $15 to help them develop a sustainable Life Garden.

Some of my thoughts during my last 4 days preparing for the climb! The world that we live in is getting more difficult, those of us that have the resources to help need to find a way to identify with the heavy loads that people are carrying and the struggle to end poverty.

I have arrived safely at Kilimanjaro! Thanks for your prayers and support
