The Story
Hey Gang, we have a BIG crisis on our hands today. It is an adorable little boy named Rocky. He was facing euthanasia by the time we reached him; critically ill, misdiagnosed, in pain and out of options. He more than needed us. Looking into his adorable face we could not deny him care and today we are on bended knee hoping you will support our decision.
He was immediately transferred to our friends at RBVH and the outlook was grim, but his age and their skill made us push on. We had no medical background information and that missing base meant additional testing and a loss of precious time towards his diagnosis and treatment.
So what does he have and how did we get what we needed to get our hands around his issues…yes, issues. This little guy was suffering with an abdominal abscess and a possible cardiac problem. Lots of blood work including a blood culture, urinalysis with culture, ultrasounds, radiographs [x-rays], ICU support, medications and more went into saving him. Cardiology got involved and evaluated him [good news, his heart is OK]. Then he received a procedure to drain the abscess; taking this risk saved him but came at a cost.
The Mission
Today we are battling a $9,000+ bill we could not have anticipated. Rocky is still ill and the coffers are empty. The culture results showed a specialized infection requiring an expensive antibiotic rarely used. He is still not eating routinely, but he is giving kisses, so we are hopeful. This one is a journey for sure.
