A Nicaraguan journalist in exile seeks emotional support for their teenage child. A young African American reporter begins to question her sanity after being relentlessly harassed by state-sponsored trolls for exposing local corruption. Dozens of newsroom professionals wonder if it’s normal to feel so exhausted, so hopeless. Freelancers speak of witnessing unspeakable violence, navigating precarity alone. These are just some of the stories that come through Vita-Activa.Org digital doors. In Spanish, English, and Portuguese, we provide free, anonymous, and confidential support for journalists, media leaders, and press freedom organizations around the world — creating a sanctuary of care in the face of burnout, harassment, and trauma.
Vita Activa exists to counteract injustice with cultural competency, solidarity and empathy awareness. As a dedicated helpline and resource hub, we provide confidential, free, and multilingual psychological and digital first aid to communicators, organizers and defenders in the field. Beyond crisis intervention, we build long-term resilience through peer support networks, training, and strategic crisis management. Our mission is clear: to ensure that those defending democracy, rights and justice are not left to struggle alone.
For 72 months , our helpline has been a pillar of support, proving that psychological first aid and digital safety are fundamental for sustaining critical voices, journalists, activists, and human rights defenders. Through empathy-driven support and positive narrative-building , we offer a real, actionable alternative to hate speech, online gender-based violence, and gender disinformation.
As digital threats evolve, so does our commitment to ensuring that critical voices, journalists, activists, and human rights defenders have the psychological and strategic tools to resist, persist, and thrive.
Vita Activa has grown into a crucial support system for those navigating the hostile digital landscape. Since our founding, we have provided 1,713 hours of active listening, emotional support, solidarity, activism, and digital assistance.
