The story behind smashSMARD :
Spinal Muscular Atrophy with Respiratory Distress, Type 1.
Spinal muscular atrophy with respiratory distress type 1 (SMARD1) is an inherited condition that causes muscle weakness and respiratory failure typically beginning in infancy.
There is little know about this rare and often fatal disease. Its rarity is of no comfort for the families affected by SMARD, and so we are building a community to promote awareness and research to make a cure a reality.
