The Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea (legal name: The New Marine Centre Society) is a vibrant learning centre and local aquarium for the Greater Victoria region in British Columbia, Canada.
We bring learners of all ages together, to explore, understand and connect deeply with the beautiful Salish Sea bioregion - its wildlife, waters, land and culture.
Vision
A healthy and diverse Salish Sea actively sustained by people inspired and informed by our Centre.
Mission
We create vibrant experiences that inspire learning, exploration, and protection of the unique Salish Sea bioregion.
The Centre's aquarium residents include a giant Pacific octopus, wolf eels, Pacific salmon, sea stars, urchins, anemones, and sea cucumbers -- over 160+ marine species! Interactive exhibits such as the beloved touch pool, and our team of dedicated staff and volunteers delight and educate ocean explorers of all ages including over 5,500 members and 8,000+ school-aged students experiencing curriculum-based programs, self-guided tours and summer camps every year.
