. The dangers our police face today are far greater than ever. That’s why so many departments are in need of a K9 unit. Having a K9 allows our police to do their jobs more effectively, and safely. Without a K9, they’re simply put at even greater risk, and so are our communities. I wanted to share this with you so you could see how important K9s are to our police and keeping people safe and to help you understand why we founded K9 Officers. We owe it to our police to help them in any way we can. They put themselves at risk every day for us.
This organization was founded in 2013 with the efforts of Rocky and Shannon Smith.
K9 Officers Inc. is completely donation funded and an all volunteer organization. Seven years ago, we set a goal of donating at least two dogs per year. The demand and requests started pouring in dictating that we expand our volunteer base and objectives substantially. To say this charity has been a success is an understatement. To date we have donated over 50(+) K9’s to Texas law enforcement, including multiple local agencies and Texas DPS. The quality of K9’s and support provided by K9 Officers Inc. has led to request from agencies outside Texas. We have made advantageous special donations to bordering parishes of Louisiana and even as far as Florida. K9 Officers Inc. donates the trained police canine, the K9 handler training and the necessary equipment for a K9 to perform their job effectively and safely. This total package provides the department the optimum chance for success with their new K9 Officer. We also provide support to the Handler and K9’s throughout the K9’s lifetime.
Understandably, drug detection/interdiction and apprehension are the primary activities for the canine but their unique capabilities also offer more compassionate services. One of our recent K9 retiree’s from Fort Bend County SO was credited with finding thirteen lost children during its nearly six years of service. You can’t quantify the value these K9s add to our community agencies. How can you help? Every donation helps and when you consider that a single specially bred, trained canine with handler training represents an initial approximate $15,000.00 investment for our charity, you can see that we must fund raise continually to sustain this cause. Without the support of local individuals, businesses and communities we could not have the impact we do. Your support will help us sustain and grow these numbers thereby making our communities safer.
