AIMaC is a non-profit association, recognized by the Ministry of Welfare as an organization developing an evident social function in Italy. Through the National Cancer Information Service, recognized by the National Cancer Plan and created with the support of ACC, AIMaC ensures a personalized “information therapy” through:
• A national helpline: A clinical oncologist, a psychologist and a lawyer, assisted by psychologists and civil service volunteers, respond to questions concerning diagnosis, treatments, side effects, access to the benefits provided by law in employment, welfare and social issues
• 40 cancer information desks, in 25 cities, set up in the oncology departments at major hospitals
• A collection of 34 booklets on the major types of cancer, how they can be treated and what effects the different therapies can have
• www.aimac.it provides information on types of cancer, treatments and complications, support services (Health On the Net Foundation)
• www.oncoguida.it, realized with the Italian Ministry of Health and ISS to learn more on where to go for diagnosis, treatments, psychological support, rehabilitation, pain, etc. It also shows the number of surgeries performed in each center by type of cancer
• A virtual forum where those who faced or are facing cancer can meet and share their experiences
• A portal on immuno-oncology
• A psycho-oncology center which provides psychological support to cancer patients and their families
AIMaC also defends the dignity of cancer patients and their families, and its successful lobbying has primed the Italian Government to respond to their emerging needs.
