Grassroots Public Radio RGV is a nonprofit set up by enthusiasts
of National Public Radio.
Our five directors are:
- Edgar Lopez of Mission, Texas (President)
- Federico Garza of San Benito, Texas (Treasurer)
- Shawn Seale of McAllen, Texas
- Ron Rogers of Weslaco, Texas
- Steve Taylor of McAllen, Texas
We set up the group when we learned KHID 88.1 FM and KJJF 88.9
FM were being sold by the Diocese of Brownsville and, as a result,
NPR was to end in the Rio Grande Valley.
We believe there is a market for NPR’s unique programming in the
Valley. It is educational and informative.
As the recent coverage on immigration has shown, the Rio Grande
Valley is one of the most important important regions in the country
for news. It is heavily Hispanic and patriotic.
It is also a region that is often misunderstood and misreported
on. We believe it deserves to have NPR, with NPR explaining the big
issues to its citizens and the corporation’s reporters covering the
issues that matter to this community.
