WHO WE ARE
ArcTangent Dance is an emerging professional contemporary dance company based in San Jose, CA. We develop and perform original repertory as well as collaborate with multidisciplinary artists such as composers, poets, filmmakers, and costume designers to enrich our dance works.
Under the artistic direction of Arielle Cole, our dance company brings together talented dancers who live and work in San Jose, as well as those from across the South and East Bay regions. We intentionally elevate the brilliance and creativity of those who identify as queer, BIPOC, AAPI, and individuals of all body types. By cultivating an environment that values and uplifts diverse voices, as well as an interest in the intersection of technology and social issues, we aim to create powerful dance experiences that resonate with all.
WHAT WE DO
Through the intersection of science, social activism, and technology, our repertoire draws inspiration from modern, jazz, ballet, and musical theater dance forms. Highlights of our repertoire are “Ode to Hetch Hetchy”, which premiered to a sold-out audience at SAFEhouse in San Francisco in February 2022. In Fall 2022, we collaborated with playwright Carol Wolf and Peninsula Symphony Orchestra on a reimagined version of Igor Stravinsky's "A Soldier's Tale," culminating in a free performance for the Palo Alto community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, with a grant from Li Chiao-Ping Dance Company, in collaboration with the dancers, Arielle created a screendance, "We Have Arrived Nowhere (Chromatic Sonata)" which was also featured in Nahn-Ho Project's 2021 online showcase. Currently, we are collaborating with filmmaker Kimber Neely on a virtual reality project called, “Symphony Chromatica.”
