Since the untimely death of his mother, Schmoolie (17) suffers from debilitating morbid fantasies. He bumbles through high school geekdom with his misfit friends dodging the school bullies Ariel and Joel, and crushing on Yael. The school Rabbi takes special care with Schmoolie in the wake of his loss, and prescribes overnight shomerim duty at a multi-faith funeral home to help him confront his fear of death. Once there he will embark upon a magical odyssey.
This film is incredibly meaningful and also really funny with elements of magic. This is a Jewish film that supports a positive message to a younger generation and is not about war or stereotypes, but instead promotes inclusiveness and brings to light so many important issues like belonging, resilience, grief and loss, identity, and anxiety.
