Argo Bookshop is the oldest English-language independent bookstore in the city of Montreal, located in the Shaughnessy Village since 1966. We're proud to offer a well-curated selection of fiction and non-fiction, including literature, poetry, science fiction and fantasy, science, philosophy, history, and biography. We also have sizable sections of young adult fiction and kids' books.


We specialize in books on linguistics and Japan, as well as books on marginalized groups and by marginalized authors, including books on race, gender, and queer issues. We strive to serve all members of our vibrant and multicultural local community, and we're happy to take special orders.


We are also happy to host regular events ranging from readings and signings to book clubs and write-ins. We are committed to supporting Montreal's readers and writers - come by and say hello!

La Librairie Argo, la librairie indépendante anglophone la plus ancienne à Montréal, est située dans le Village Shaughnessy depuis 1966. Nous sommes fiers d'offrir une variété de livres de langue anglaise minutieusement sélectionnés, allant du roman littéraire au fantastique, de la poésie à la philosophie, et de la science à la biographie. Nous offrons aussi une gamme de livres pour enfants et jeunes adultes.
 
Nous accordons un intérêt particulier aux livres sur la linguistique et sur le Japon, ainsi qu’aux livres consacrés aux groupes marginalisés et rédigés par des auteur.e.s marginalisé.e.s, comprenant des ouvrages traitant de questions raciales, de genre, et queer. Nous veillons à servir tous les membres de notre communauté dynamique et multiculturelle, et il nous fera plaisir de prendre vos commandes spéciales.
 
C'est aussi avec plaisir que nous vous accueillons dans un espace confortable pour des événements hebdomadaires tels que des visites d'auteur.e.s invité.e.s, des clubs de lecture, et des sessions d'écriture. Nous nous donnons comme mission de soutenir la communauté littéraire anglophone de Montréal - passez faire un tour!
