Artistic Residency and International Study Centre

Founded in 1990 by Ellen Stewart (formerly the founder and artistic director of La MaMa Theater in New York), La MaMa Umbria has always been committed to promoting exchanges and collaborations among artists and groups of various nationalities and backgrounds. Over 30 years of activity, La MaMa Umbria has presented and organized numerous cultural events: numerous multidisciplinary shows, concerts, exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and festivals. In the last 25 years, it has initiated high-level training courses and Masters, the Symposium for Directors, the Master for Actors, and the Playwrights retreat, involving renowned international teachers and artists.

Many groups have benefited from La MaMa Umbria's facilities to carry out periods of artistic residency aimed at preparing new artistic projects.

For 15 years, it has collaborated with the Festival dei 2Mondi for the realization of "La MaMa Spoleto Open", a special event presenting both the results of the residencies and international projects, with the aim of involving the local community and giving visibility to emerging realities in the international artistic scene. La MaMa Umbria is a founding member of the Italian Center ITI - International Theatre Institute (a UNESCO body) and the European network PAIRS, Performing Arts in Residence, and a member of the Res Artist network. Since 2015, it has been recognized by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and the Umbria Region as one of the 5 artistic residencies in Umbria, and since 2018, it has been part of C.U.R.A. Umbrian Artistic Residences Center, also recognized at ministerial and regional level.

Since 2012, together with other associations in the area, it has managed and organized the Creative Hub Cantiere Oberdan, a Municipal space used as a theater hall, an interdisciplinary cultural center for aggregation, participation, and training, aimed at the local community and particularly at the new generations. A regenerated and alternative space, where young people work to contribute to redesigning the cultural and social architecture of the city of tomorrow.

Residenza artistica e Centro studi Internazionale

Fondata nel 1990 da Ellen Stewart (già fondatrice e direttrice artistica del Teatro La MaMa di New York) La MaMa Umbria è da sempre impegnata nella promozione di scambi e collaborazioni tra artisti e gruppi di varie nazionalità e provenienze. Nel corso di 30 anni di attività, La MaMa Umbria ha presentato e organizzato moltissimi eventi culturali: numerosi spettacoli multidisciplinari, concerti, mostre, conferenze, workshop e Festival.Negli ultimi 25 anni ha avviato corsi e Master di alta formazione, il Symposio per Registi, il Master per attori e il Corso per scrittori e drammaturghi, coinvolgendo docenti e artisti di fama e caratura internazionale.

Tantissimi gruppi hanno usufruito delle strutture de La MaMa Umbria per svolgere dei periodi di residenza artistica, mirati alla preparazione di nuovi progetti artistici.
