As the Founder and CEO of ICC I get to see first hand the amazing transformation that comes through the work that ICC does. Children with disabilities not only find hope, but they also find a future through the work done by our teams. Our teams of nearly 100 special educators, physical therapists, social workers, vocational teachers (amongst many others) give of themselves tirelessly to bring about incredible transformation. But it isn't only the children that find hope, it is their parents, grandparents, brothers and sister - all of whom were being swallowed by hopelessness as they try to care for their child, grandchild or sibling. Imagine with me what it must be like to feel like you are being sucked down into a dark abyss, until someone from ICC knocks on your door. Incarnational hope has arrived in the form of a young man or woman who will walk that journey of life with you, helping you find your way out of the darkness back towards hope. Why did I choose to become CEO again early this year? Because of this reality that there are still hundreds of thousands of children and families that need hope - and ICC works to make that a reality.
Every year, thousands of people all around the world join together on one day to stand us in our work. Walk the Wall is when we put on your shoes to walk and raise funds that help us do this desperately needed work.
Jamie and I are walking again this year and we need you to stand with us. It's funny how each year as we prepare for Walk the Wall I find myself remembering walks from years gone by (there has been 16 of them!) with Linda and Kieran. Doing Walk the Wall with Kieran was a visceral reminder of how fortunate we, in the Western world really are. Children in China need that same kind of care and support.
