The Story
This is Bentley and he is having an IVDD [Intervertebral Disc Disease] crisis. He screams in pain in spite of the medications used to address his issues. He needs surgery and he needs it quickly. Every doxie owner knows we only have a very short time, 72 hours from onset of symptoms to the surgical table for a chance at a positive outcome here.
So who is Bentley, why are we pushing for surgery and what are his realistic chances? Poor Bentley. This loving little boy came to us a little over a year ago after being bounced from home to home to home. He suffered a bought of IVDD then, but we recovered him medically and watched him rally in the arms of his supportive GrandPaws family. Then, just the other day after a bath, Bentley experienced an IVDD crisis. We re-initiated the medical protocol including strict crate rest, but his pain is not subsiding and his deep pain is slowly fading. Our medical team knows this failure to respond means surgery, not just to walk again, but to live. Working together we can save him!
The Mission
We have identified the issue as the disc's in his thoracic region, specifically T3-5. Only an MRI can define the issue further and only surgery can bring him relief.
What do we do in the meantime? Clearly we are up against a 72-hour surgery time frame, but not all hope is lost here. Alternate therapies including laser therapy and acupuncture working in conjunction with our prescribed medical protocol will continue and will hopefully slow the rupture of these discs. Let's be clear though, without support from kindhearted people like you Bentley stands no chance of recovery, never mind have a quality or live a pain free life.
