Help Us Expand Our Reach

News Literacy for Arizona

Truth matters, it does exist, and we CAN find it.

At News Literacy for Arizona, we teach news literacy through a 50-minute workshop that's hosted at schools, libraries and community centers. The workshop is free, nonpartisan, and designed for attendees age 13 and older. Our five-point training focuses on:

  1. The importance of  news literacy
  2. The danger of  disinformation
  3. The power of  algorithms  on the information we consume
  4. The difference between  journalism  and  propaganda
  5. How to build a  diverse news diet

Our workshops are taught by a seasoned educator and our advisory board members have diverse experience ranging from state-level library leadership to Pultizer-winning journalism. We've had tremendous reach in a short time, but can grow dramatically with your help.

Testimonials

“I’m grateful for the perspectives this program brought to my classes. The principles taught will help my students on every paper they write, and in all the research they do."

- Tyler McDowell-Blanken, English teacher, Sunnyslope High

"Determining fact from fiction is a vital part of a healthy democracy. The education provided through News Literacy for Arizona is precisely the kind of resource Arizona needs!”

- Jim Steyer, Stanford professor and founder of Common Sense Media

"This is a fantastic workshop. Really well done. It's providing an important service to Arizona."

-Patricia Jimenez, teacher librarian in the Washington School District, central Phoenix

“Michelle presented to my honors English classes and did a great job reaching her audience. This news-literacy curriculum is important and extremely effective."

- Ariz. State Senator Christine Marsh, 2016 Arizona Teacher of the Year

Any amount helps as we try to find sustainable funding (there are very few grants available for news literacy). All donations are tax-deductible.

Please spread the word by sharing this campaign with friends, family and associates. Another way to help: Tell teachers and club leaders that we're available to book with them. THANK YOU!
