For the duration of 2020, we have been the IVDD safety net 1 time per month for an IVDD dog, and today, just a little over half way through November, our safety net has been called on for the 11th time to help Leah when her family chose to surrender her when they were not equipped to provide the care she needed for the surgery or after.

We do not relish being the IVDD safety net as owner surrender iVDD cases are hard all the way around.  It is hard for the family to choose to surrender, it is hard for us to have to tell them they will not be able to adopt their dog back, it is hard to explain to our community why it has to be that way (we get asked this question so many times, we have finally written it up and a detailed explanation is available on our website at https://www.dachshundrescuesouthflorida.com/owner-surrenders.html)  and it is hard trying to raise thousands of dollars to cover the same surgery with the same story over and over again.

It isn't easy, but we can do hard things.  If we don't, who will be there to help dogs like Leah?

Leah is under the care of Dr. Webb and Dr. Adams at Southeast Veterinary Neurology in Boynton where an MRI revealed an L5-7 right sided hemi with lots of swelling in her spinal cord and Leah went to surgery shortly thereafter.  The rupture was significant and we will know more on her condition and prognosis in the days to come.  

You are the safety net.  You are what makes it possible for us to continue to say yes.  You have helped us help 10 before her so far this year, can Leah count on you to help her as number 11?

As always, every single dollar counts toward our funding finish line and if everyone gives even a few dollars, our funding worries will be a thing of the past.  Leah needs us and we want to do right by her.  Do we have it in us for one more IVDD surgery?
