My StoryAs many of you know, I have been involved with a charity called Thrive for Good for over 3 years now. To say the least, this charity has changed my life. After completing 3 trips to Kenya, my relationships have developed into those that represent a second family. My second family is full of amazing people that are dedicated to helping others. On April 23, I will be turning 28 years old. As the world continues to be shaken to its core by COVID-19, I wanted to do something different. This year instead of receiving gifts and celebrating my birthday together in person, I am asking friends and family to make a difference by donating my age in dollars. Since Thrive is not able to start new Life Garden projects at this time because of travel restrictions and social distancing, the money that is raised will go directly towards transforming their in-person training into an online curriculum. |
Although the impact of this may be hard to imagine, this is actually going to be life-changing for thousands of people. Instead of hosting a one-month course at their training center in Kenya, Thrive will be able to offer their training online to anyone in the world. Simply enough, it will empower other charities like Food for the Hungry and Prison Fellowship International, along with individuals and communities across the globe with the knowledge and skills they need to grow food for life - food that nourishes their bodies and helps them to fight off life-threatening diseases. This course can even be taken by me and you!
One of the stories that have stood out to me the most during my travels to Kenya was about a young student president named Bromley. At his school, he and his classmates created approximately 110 garden beds, displaying their knowledge of organic gardening and nutrition. They took this project to the next level by selling their surplus crops to nearby community members, making revenue. When school supplies, like uniforms and pencils, were low, Bromley was too scared to go home and ask his parents for money. He actually used the money from selling surplus crops to purchase his own school supplies. A Life Garden project like this is transforming these student's lives and how they view things.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support! I am not sure what people's giving capacities are during this crisis, but I thought I would give this a go! Please remember that any amount will help, but I am encouraging you to donate $28 dollars.
"In a time full of war, be peace
In a time full of doubt, just believe
Yeah, there ain't that much
difference between you and me
In a time full of war, be
peace" - Thomas Rhett
I will be sure to share with you the link to the online course once it is complete. It is scheduled to take 4-6 weeks. The need for this is critical right now!
Tax receipts will be provided by Thrive for Good. Donating Tip: When making a donation, you don't have to create a PayPal account, you can pick the other option to give by card instead.
Blessings,
- Kerri Roberts
Your Donation Dollars are Going Far!
With knowledge, simple tools, and starter seeds, people who can't afford to buy healthy food can grow their own - almost anywhere in the world. Each educated individual is able to produce nutrient-dense, life-giving foods and proven natural medicines and provide a sustainable source of potential income generation.

Hidden Hunger is Everywhere
The single biggest health challenge today is unequal access to nutrition. 2 billion people - including 1 in 3 children - aren't getting enough micronutrients to reach their full potential and fight disease.
It shows up in wealthy countries where packaged and fast foods are cheaper than fresh fruits and vegetables.
It happens mostly in poor countries, where the first priority is to get food in bellies, and "nutrition" means meal after meal of processed, white grains and corn. Because even among farming families in the world’s poorest countries, people aren’t growing nutrient-dense foods.
But developing brains and bodies are hungry for micronutrients. Without real nutrition, children never get a fair chance. They can't thrive and their immunity isn't strong enough to fight infection. In fact, 45% of deaths in children under the age of 5 are related to poor nutrition.
Hidden hunger keeps people from improving their own lives. It causes kids to miss school. It keeps adults from work when they're chronically ill. And it orphans too many children.
The diseases caused by hidden hunger cost the poor too much to treat if they have access to healthcare at all. And the burden of disease from hidden hunger keeps the best work of charities from making enough impact. Because nutrition is a basic need and only when it's met can people thrive.
The Solution
Until now, a nourishing, whole foods diet has seemed out of reach for the poor. That's because we've come to see food as a cost and healthy food as a luxury.
But through Life Gardens, communities including prisons, schools, HIV groups and churches are able to grow health. Thrive trains and equips people to grow an abundance of healthy, organic, disease-fighting foods and medicinal plants.
These projects are called Life Gardens because growing health is the first step to a thriving life.
The Thrive model works anywhere there's:
- 100 square feet of soil (the size of a standard living room)
- 6 hours of daily sunlight
- Scarce rainfall (500 mm / 20 inches a year)
It's based on the best organic growing methods, nutritional research and an education-first approach.
About Thrive
Thrive is a worldwide not-for-profit based in Canada operating out of Kenya putting nutritional security - not just food security - in the hands of the poor so they can improve their lives.
Thrive empowers the poor to be self-sufficient, starting with nutrition. When people can take health into their own hands, they have new dignity and pride. Nutritional-security also gives them hope for a better future without the constant burden of disease.
Vision & Mission
By 2025, Thrive will empower 1 million people in the developing world to lead healthy and sustainable lives by training them to grow nutritious and income-generating whole foods.
When people have everything they need to grow healthy, disease-fighting foods, they have the foundation for reaching their fullest potential.
