iTeams Canada hasn't added a story.
Impact Zambia helps rural churches and communities to flourish by providing leadership and skills training under the leadership of Daniel and Florence Mayapi. This work is severely hampered by the devastating drought that now reached a point where people are going without food for days on end. It is a matter of survival. According to the IPC Acute Food Insecurity Analysis, Zambia is on the verge of a food crisis. Hunger makes learning impossible while people try to find anything to eat: wild fruits, roots, leaves. Some resort to chopping down live trees to make charcoal for short-term cash to buy food while the long-term impact leads to the creation of deserts. Rural communities normally relying on subsistence farming are the hardest hit.
The worst drought in 4 decades also limits the availability of hydro-electric power which is this country's key source of electricity. There are over 2.3 million in need of food.
Impact Zambia is focused on the long-term sustainable transformational development. To achieve this long-term goal we need to come together and provide relief. The leadership at Impact Zambia is connected to rural churches and communities far away from urban centres. Through supporting Impact Zambia’s food crisis relief appeal, Daniel and Florence can ensure that these communities also receive the assistance they need.
Please help us reach our $5000 goal so that we can add velocity to the relief efforts of Impact Zambia until the long term goal of seeing lives and communities transformed is achieved.

WHO WE HELP
Impact Zambia works in partnership with local leaders to help some of the poorest communities in rural areas of southwestern Zambia. Its programs are primarily operated through New Life Tabernacle (founded in 1994 and headquartered in Itezhi, Zambia) and its 20+ branch churches.
Established in 2012, Impact Zambia’s first project was to build a facility that doubled up as an office and school on the site of the Itezhi-tezhi church, and to build new church buildings in Mumbwa and Namwala. Through partnerships with Canadian and South African churches, Rotary International, and International Teams Canada, they have since expanded their programs to include community development initiatives designed to break the cycle of poverty through education and vocational training.
WHAT WE DO
The life-changing vocational Training Centre in Itezhi-tezhi grew up out of a sewing club, which has provided sewing and business training to women in partnership with Rotary International. The need for skills and leadership development, resulted in the construction of a multi-purpose training centre, which offers classes in leadership training as well as employable skills like sewing, agriculture, woodworking, building dams, and mechanical repair.
