Preserve REBOOT- Orange County Land Trust's Preserve Improvements
Since March, Orange County Land Trust's nature preserves have seen more visitors than ever before. We are glad to have so many neighbors and friends using our preserves, welcome!
To better accommodate this increase in foot traffic, Orange County Land Trust is asking for your help with a series of improvements that will enhance public access, improve and maintain trails, and provide visitors with an enjoyable experience at all of our preserves.
When the COVID-19 health crisis swept through New York State and the Hudson Valley, many people looked outdoors for alternatives to their regular social and recreational activities, yearning for the comfort and simple freedoms of nature when other recreational and social options outside the home were shuttered. Many found refuge in our preserves.
As our region continues to reopen, a rediscovered interest in
getting into the great outdoors has not waned. The projects
featured in this Preserve REBOOT campaign will help achieve our
goals and benefit thousands of people across the mid-Hudson Valley
region. Thank you for supporting land conservation and the Orange

These donations will fund the maintenance and management of our open meadows and early successional habitats at Moonbeams, Hamptonburgh, and Hunter Farm Preserves for the benefit of ground nesting birds, pollinators, and other species of wildlife that depend on them. Part of this project will also focus on the removal of invasive plant species from these areas.

The kiosk will provide visitors with information about the history of the preserve, as well as trail information, maps, and other engaging content. This donation will fund the purchase of new trail markers at our Birnberg Preserve. This 187-acre Preserve located along the Heritage Trail in the Towns of Chester and Blooming Grove is home to a variety of amphibians and bird species. There are two nature trails: a 3/4-mile looped trail through woodlands and a mowed 1-mile looped trail providing views of Goosepond Mountain and the Young’s Brook wetlands.

This donation will fund the purchase of new trail markers at our 255-acre Fuller Mountain Preserve in Warwick, NY. These woods are home to many mammals, including the long-tailed weasel and black bear, several rare plants, and an abundance of bird life. This preserve has three trails: a moderate 1.75 mile round trip trail and 1.5 mile round trip trail that both lead to a fantastic vista overlooking the Warwick Valley and an enchanting ¾ mile loop that meanders along and over Fuller’s Brook.
