The Background
Did you know that this is National Heartworm Month? Well it is! Today we are here to educate you on this horrible, but preventable disease and to introduce you to 4 doxies in our system in need of your support. Their lives hang in the balance and like us, we are pretty sure you will want to make a life changing impact for them.
Why Heartworm
Here at DRBC we see heartworm in
dogs we intake more and more. As dogs that do not receive
preventative medications or or receive ineffective medications
the incidence of cases grows. Additionally, there is a new
resistant strain of heartworm migrating from the South that the
average heartworm medication cannot prevent. Here at DRBC we
utilize Iverhart Max and we battle the resistant strain for all
of our little ones. Remember, this all begins with one infected mosquito.

The DRBC Positive
Doxies
Sadly, 4 doxies in our care have been
impacted by heartworm. One has received treatment and needs
support; she was infected by the resistant strain. The
remaining three await definition of the type of heartworm they
possess and subsequent treatment. All need your support.
It's time to make a miracle Gang! Before you shake your head and turn your smile upside down check out our mission and how you, yes you can make an impact.
Today's Mission
OK Gang, it seems we have a 'Mission Impossible' on our hands, but not if we all lend a hand. We have 4 heartworm doxies that need cardiac support; 3 need heartworm definition and treatment. It is an incredible financial undertaking and here in National Heartworm Month we are turning to you to save their lives. Together we really can make a difference.

We thought we
would have some fun and invite you to be part of the transport
by buying a van ticket or two for each of the kids. We have
identified the dogs and have a link to each of their stories: Let's see which doxie gets to board the van first. And let's be clear...we want that van full for this trips!
|
Your Lifesaving Impact
OK, the steps are not only fun, they are pretty simple too.
Step 1: Check out the groups and the pups in them. [See list above]
Step 2. Pick a doxie to sponsor.
Step 3: Donate towards the van ticket or buy a ticket for a dog outright.
Step 4: Decide if you want to give a Perk to your sponsored pupper for being such a good van rider.
Step 5: Check out and smile. You just helped to save a life!
Easy and fun! Best of all the dogs are the big winners thanks to your generosity and support. We say it all the time, but we mean it from our hearts...no one does it like the DRBC Gang! Now let's load that van!!
Where the Funds Go
We have only one goal for this incredibly important fundraiser: the gift of life for our heartworm positive doxies. This begins with treatment, continues with ongoing cardiac support and overall leads to a great quality of life for every one of them. We hope you will step up and lend a hand. Remember, life has already failed them once and we know how things are with the DRBC Gang...you won't let that happen a second time. Let's keep these little tails wagging for years to come!

The DRBC Mission
Founded in 1984 by Bucks County, PA, and New Jersey dachshund lovers, DRBC is a 501 (C)(3) nonprofit organization supported completely by donations. Our all-volunteer organization, which has been in existence for over 36 years, works tirelessly for the benefit of dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and the animal owning public. DRBC serves the needs of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, and Delaware.
DRBC’s mission is five-fold:
- Rescue abandoned, owner relinquished neglected, or stray dachshunds or dachshund mixes.
- Rehabilitate through excellent medical and behavioral support those in our care.
- Re-home those in our charge with an emphasis on their personality and not a quick fix based on needed space.
- Provide life-long sanctuary to those with long-term medical/behavioral issues. Additionally, DRBC supports the long-term sanctuary of senior dachshunds.
- Finally, we seek to provide community education to enhance the life and well-being of all pets through the DRBC community education program.
DRBC prides itself as an organization on the level of medical care provided and in its role as a medical resource for the dachshund breed. Community education is at the forefront of the DRBC mission.
We endeavor to obtain all dachshunds in animal shelters thus avoiding euthanasia. We also aid owners in recovering lost or stolen pets.
