The Journey of the Kunsan Cadillac
The RCW retired USAF L-17B, affectionately known as the "Kunsan Cadillac," was scheduled for a routine oil change when our team made a troubling discovery, the engine was producing an alarming amount of metal shavings. Our investigation revealed that the original E-185 engine, which had powered N2995C since 1948, was unfortunately beyond salvage.
Determined to breathe new life into this historic aircraft, we have opted to upgrade to the E-225 engine, a more powerful variant used in later models of the L-17B. This enhancement not only boosts the aircraft's performance but also significantly increases the safety margins for our passengers during flights.
Your support will be instrumental in helping us replace, overhaul, and upgrade to the E-225 engine. This critical upgrade will involve modifications to the cowling, the addition of cowl flaps, and improvements to the downdraft cooling system.
