WHO WE HELP

Impact Guatemala supports the people of La Pinada and surrounding communities through a partnership with the Senderos de Luz (Path of Light) ministry. Much of the activity of Impact Guatemala centres around the newly-built community centre in La Pinada, which is used for church services, Bible and English language classes, social programs, and a twice-weekly feeding program for local children living in poverty. Their ministry also includes minor home repairs to improve the living conditions for families in need.

WHAT WE DO

Impact Guatemala offers a variety of  social programs  to members of the La Pinada community, including family planning, hygiene, life skills, career development, cooking, sewing, and others. These self-sustainable, year-round activities are based at the Vocational Training & Community Centre and are facilitated by Guatemalans.

Half of all Guatemalan children are malnourished. The Impact Guatemala  Nutrition Program, which provides healthy food to 50-70 kids two days a week, also features regular activities, such as singing, practicing English, Bible stories, and sports.

To meet one of the most pressing needs in the community, program leader Hilmar has started a  Food Hamper Program  for widows in financial trouble. As funds allow, two food hampers are given out each month to widows Hilmar has identified with the greatest need, during his weekly home visits in the community.

Education in Guatemala is only subsidized by the government up to grade six. Impact Guatemala had created a  Tuition Scholarship Program  to give local children access to a quality education beyond grade six. ESL classes and a kindergarten class are available at a public school near La Pinada. Visiting Impact Teams help with English lessons.
