Highland Park Middle School hasn't added a story.
My name is Benjamin Lloyd and I teach Technology at my school. My middle school students love learning new things and especially take pride in the things that they create, however, it can be difficult at times merging these two things.
Remember when you were in middle school? Do you remember what your teachers taught? I bet you remember at least one project that you did or something that you created that you were proud of.
I strive each year to create engaging opportunities for them to learn new and relevant skills in ways that will help cultivate and motivate a desire for lifelong learning. This project seeks to teach small groups of middle school students, during a before school club, the following skills. Computer-aided design, preparing files for CNC milling, basic operating systems for Raspberry Pi, electronics, and electronic circuits. Students will work with one or two partners to build a miniature retro arcade machine from scratch. They will start by designing on the computer and finish when they have a real product in their hands.
The money requested for this project would go towards the following purchases and would go towards 20 pieces of kit:
$800- 7" LCD Screens
$720 - Raspberry Pi Units
$300- Arcade Buttons
$200 - Power Adapters
$150- MDF wood
$120 - 8GB Micro SD cards
$110- Mini Amplifier Circuit and Speakers
By contributing to this campaign, you make it possible for many of the students at my school to have these hands-on experiences and hopefully aid in helping them find a passion and skill for design and engineering. Thank you in advance for any help that you might be willing to offer us in completing this goal!
This project is supported by the Beaverton Education Foundation.
Founded in 1988, the Beaverton Education Foundation raises money to provide hands-on innovative academic enrichment and advancement programs & projects that go beyond normal school funding at all Beaverton public schools and is a 501(c)(3) community-based nonprofit organization. BEF mobilizes community resources to fund innovative classroom, summer and after-school programs.
In the event that this project does not reach its goal, BEF may apply the funds received to another project in need.
