World Housing is proud to connect our entire donor family this holiday season to build another amazing community that will provide safe housing for women and children facing homelessness.

This year World Housing's holiday fundraising goal is to raise the necessary funds to complete the construction of the UGM Women & Families Centre in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. 

This new facility will help build better futures for our city’s most vulnerable women and mothers by empowering them to transform their lives. The escape from homelessness will help women break free from the devastating cycles of addiction, poverty and the sex trade. 

This amazing supportive housing project includes:

• 36 homes in a fully supportive community
• sanctuary rooms for women who are in recovery
• rooms specifically designed for mothers and their babies
• 1, 2 & 3 bedroom apartments for mothers with children
• child care rooms inside the building

There is currently no supportive housing in the DTES that enables women with children and/or babies to address and continue their recovery, while living in a real home where they are able to develop strengths and move towards independence.

The Women & Families Centre will be operated by Union Gospel Mission and will fill a gap in the current addiction recovery and homelessness services system, preventing many women, and women with children from falling through the cracks between detox and recovery. 

These homes provide the opportunity for mothers and children to stay together, as well as works towards reuniting children with their mothers in cases where they have been removed from their care. 

Safe housing launches the road to self sufficiency, changing the trajectory of the future of these women and their families. The UGM Women & Families Center is slated to open early winter 2021.
