Help Keep B-24 Diamond Lil Flying
Built in 1941, the B-24 Liberator Diamond Lil was one of the first of more than 18,000 Liberators to roll off the assembly line at Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego. This groundbreaking bomber helped redefine long-range air combat and became a cornerstone of the Allied effort in World War II.
B-24s flew grueling missions across Europe, North Africa, and the Pacific—bombing targets, hunting submarines, and delivering supplies to the front lines. Of all those built, Diamond Lil is among the earliest survivors—and one of the last still flying.
After the War, she was saved from the scrapyard and became one of the founding aircraft of the Commemorative Air Force, touring the nation with the CAF AirPower History Tour alongside her sister ship, the B-29 Superfortress FIFI , as a flying memorial to the Greatest Generation.
For the past year, Diamond Lil has undergone a major restoration, replacing control cables, pulleys, and fabric-covered surfaces to keep her flying safely for years to come.

Each year the CAF holds an annual fundraiser to help support and highlight aircraft projects for planes in need of restoration, maintenance or repairs. Donors may contribute to a specific aircraft project or to the CAF’s Restoration Grant Fund.
