Every single day, the people living on Ukraine's frontlines with Russia face impossible choices. But Nowzad's volunteer in Kramatorsk - Ksenia - always refuses to back down.

Yesterday, her home in Kramatorsk burned to the ground.

She had just spent the morning evacuating rescued animals from high-risk requests. Later that afternoon, a Russian FPV drone struck her roof, igniting a massive fire. When the firefighters rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames, an FPV drone struck their fire truck as well—wounding the firefighters and leaving no way to stop the fire from destroying everything.

While the animals from the ARK rescue were pulled out safely from the burning building, the threat of follow-up drone strikes meant they had to be released right back outside, for their own safety.

In Ksenia’s own words:

Despite losing her home and facing constant drone attacks, Ksenia absolutely refuses to give up. She continues to risk her life daily to evacuate vulnerable animals and people away from the Russian frontlines.
