Beaverton High School, Jason Hohnbaum hasn't added a story.
My name is Jason Hohnbaum and I've spent The past 18 months working with students in the Beaverton School District as a technology coach. This year I am working at Beaverton High School. With this new opportunity has come new collaboration with many departments including the social studies department. Not every student has an opportunity to travel to Paris and explore the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre, but with Google cardboard, every student can feel like they are there. Perhaps the fields of Gettysburg, or the icebergs of Antarctica is where your class needs to be. Wherever your curriculum journey takes you, with Google Cardboard, students can be there.
By investing in Google Cardboard, students can use their own phones to explore in virtual reality places they've only read about or seen videos about. This relatively inexpensive investment will open students' minds to new ideas and hopefully entice them to explore these places in real life someday. Working with the social studies department, I wanted to purchase about 125 Google Cardboard devices . I intend to purchase them at https://www.knoxlabs.com/products/knox-v2. This will be enough for 3-4 teachers to check out at a time amongst the nine members of the department. We'd also be able to loan them out to other departments throughout the school as they may cover similar topics with a virtual reality component. Each device costs approximately $7, and with a $1000 investment, I will be able to purchase 125 devices.
Budget plan:
$875 for 125 VR Cardboard boxes
$120 for shipping
Not every student will be able to see the world someday, but with this investment, every student will have a chance to see the world virtually.
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”
~ Mark Twain
