This year’s Gala comes at a critical moment. As Yellow Scene Magazine turns 25, we also mark a turning point in Boulder County media: with the closure of Boulder Weekly, YS is now the last & only locally owned print news platform in the region serving the entire County/North Metro Region. We’re continuing to do the work—covering culture, holding the powerful accountable, and publishing the kinds of stories no one else will. But we can only do it with you.
This is our biggest fundraiser of the year—and it helps keep the lights on, the presses running, and the reporting flowing.
We’re taking over The Louisville Underground on October 16th, and we’ve lined up a night full of music, art, and community:

Proceeds from the Gala directly support Yellow Scene’s editorial work—including These American Crossroads, our new project with Emmy-nominated photojournalist Vince Chandler, documenting resilience and resistance in working-class communities across America.

Every staff member except one works part-time. To bring you more of the news you deserve, we want to expand these roles to full-time capacity.
- Moving our Editor to Full-Time: Allowing us to cover more voices, organizations, and our local city and county governments.
- Adding Two Part-Time Beat Reporters: Ensuring comprehensive coverage of local government activities.
- Hiring a second Advertising Sales Member: Ensuring that we can continue local journalism, while supporting community businesses.
- Moving our Development Manager to Full-Time: Allowing us to secure more grant funding and enhance community outreach efforts.
- Covering the Cost of CORAs (Colorado Open Records Act Requests): Keeping government actions transparent, we submit numerous requests annually costing between $250-$3000 each.
