Nowzad hasn't added a story.
Three kittens named Rommel, Monty and Nelson are strays that
have taken refuge in a NATO base in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Due to them being very young and without a mother it was
unlikely that they were going to survive the extreme cold of the
Kabul winter.
Luckily these plucky chaps found refuge in an outdoor cafe
where a few cat enthusiasts have spent time feeding them and
providing them homes to survive the extreme cold of Kabul in winter
(-12 degrees Celsius / 10 degrees Fahrenheit).
At some point, a charity called Nowzad were able to neuter and
vaccinate these kittens so they could become controlled strays.
Unfortunately they are in a United States managed Base who’s
rules are to have no interaction with animals other than to
euthanize.
So now these three kittens are very domesticated and at risk
of being euthanized despite the fact they are neutered, vaccinated,
providing the role required to maintain a territory to prevent
unvaccinated cats moving in and pest control. It's an argument I am
having but loosing.
The three kittens are brothers, Rommel and Monty are
biological brothers where as Nelson is much younger and from another
unknown litter.
Everyday you will find all three sleeping on top of each other
to keep warm or play fighting.
They have all become very domesticated and have become very
affectionate.
Monty is a total lap cat and will sit on you or climb on top
of your shoulders given the chance, Rommel is very confident and
enjoys human attention, Nelson is the youngest of the three and
normally does whatever his bigger brothers are doing.
Nelson has become my favourite after I watched him suffer with
the cold and at one point I thought was going to die, luckily the
Nowzad charity was able to give us some medication for him and he is
back to fantastic health and growing to catch up with his brothers.
Donations via check can be mailed to:

Please include the animal that you would like to donate to in your mailing.
If, for whatever reason, the companion animal rescue is not
successful (such as disease or injury) then at the discretion of
Nowzad Dogs, the funds collected via this Youcaring page will be
allocated to support the vital daily operational costs of the Nowzad
Dogs small animal clinic and shelter in Kabul.
The total required for a companion animal to travel to North
America is on average $5000 for a dog and $2500 for a cat (we make
no profit and everything is subject to currency valuations and fuel
prices on the day). We are sadly unable to offer refunds on donations.
