Empower Lives. Build Accessible News for All.

Imagine for a moment that everyone around you was talking about the big news, but you couldn't get to that news. You couldn't read the article. Or see the video. Or hear the audio. You couldn't understand what the words meant.

This is the reality for many Americans.

• More than 28 percent of U.S. adults have a disability and half of U.S. adults have a chronic illness that may affect how they think, understand, see, or hear.

• The average reading level of American adults is 6th grade.

• 37 million Americans live at or below the poverty line.

These factors make accessing news difficult.

We have a solution: a news site where every news story is available in text, audio, video, sign language and more. And it's never behind a paywall.

It sounds complex but our focus is simple: making the news accessible and creating accessible jobs.

In the center of the photograph, a Black male journalist sitting in wheelchair holds a large notepad and a pen as he asks questions of two people in the right foreground of the image who face away from the camera. Another man, left, types on a laptop.

We are Equal Access Public Media (EAPM), a nonpartisan, nonprofit, national news corporation. We are building a variety of publications that produce news in multiple formats.

We believe everyone deserves equal access to news that impacts their lives.

Accessible Media Enriches Lives

Accessible media empowers people with disabilities by ensuring that everyone has the same access to crucial information such as news, politics, and current events.

Fully accessible media allows people to stay informed by letting them peruse content independently, without needing to rely on assistance from others.

We all deserve the right to stay informed at our convenience.

By creating accessible media, we ensure that the experiences of disabled people are not only shared but valued, both inside and outside of the newsroom. It also deepens understanding, allowing allies and supporters to gain better insights into the disabled community, fostering greater empathy and allyship.

Accessible news is vital in promoting civic engagement. It enables people with disabilities to actively participate in their communities, cast informed votes on important issues, and engage with the world.

News empowers advocacy efforts, giving people the knowledge and tools they need to fight for their rights.

EAPM Provides Job Opportunities and Career Growth

Accessible media not only empowers individuals with disabilities by providing equal access to essential news, but it also creates inclusive job opportunities.

EAPM offers accessible employment opportunities in journalism and the news media industry.

Disabled voices ensure that the media industry benefits from diverse talent and perspectives. Because the disability community is extremely diverse in age, race, gender, religion, ethnicity, and geography, accessible job opportunities at EAPM will create a truly diverse team. Disabled journalists, with the right accommodations, can thrive in various roles, leading to professional growth and representation across all newsrooms and media operations.

How Your Donation Helps

A journalist with red long red hair in a braid sits in a wheelchair on the left side of a conference table covered in sticky notes. On the right side of the table, a journalist with a shaved head navigates the table by touch. Your support helps create accessible, inclusive news.

Here’s how you make a difference:

• $50 helps us add closed captioning to about 30 minutes of news video.

• $100 funds sign language interpretation for video segments and to translate text.

• $250 allows a journalist to report news for a day.

• $500 contributes to building accessible workspaces for all.

Thank you for helping us build a future where news is accessible to all, and everyone can stay informed. Together, we are changing the way news is made, delivered, and experienced.

Your generosity fuels our mission; thank you for being part of it!

Fundraising Goal

To build this transformative media platform, we need $500,000.  This funding will help us launch our first accessible news outlet. It will allow us to hire journalists, sign language interpreters, designers, and others. And it will ensure all our news content reaches everyone.

We're hoping to take a chip out of that overall funding need with the Winter Fundraiser by raising $1,000 in just two months!

With your help, we can do it! Any contribution, large or small, brings us closer to our goal. And your donations are tax deductible.

Thank You!
