The Pride of Corsicana just turned 80 on November 1st!

N49238 was manufactured in November 1942 and served as a training platform for fledgling pilots preparing for war.  During WWII, the Corsicana airfield was established to train these pilots.  The aircraft used was the PT-19 just like the one we have.  Therefore, the aircraft has a significant relationship with the city of Corsicana, TX.  For that reason, our aircraft is named The Pride of Corsicana.

In early 2020 (pre-COVID) we changed our engine out due to excessive oil consumption.  Since that time the aircraft has performed flawlessly and has flown more than 100 flight hours. She has put many smiles on the faces of her riders who have experienced their first ride in an open cockpit aircraft.  We would like to thank you for your previous generosity which helped to offset the more than $25,000 that this engine change cost the unit.  Keeping these historic aircraft flying is rewarding but as you can see it is an expensive endeavor to do so.  

Earlier this year we complied with a required installation of equipment mandated by the FAA to fly in high density airspace.   Although the maintenance facility helped us significantly, the cost to do this was nearly $5,000.  Contributions from our pilots and squadron members has helped but we are still hoping to help offset this expense through this years 12 Planes of Christmas campaign.

We are asking for your help again by donating toward the cost of these improvements.  Any amount helps and we thank you in advance for whatever you can do.  Our goal this year is $9,000 which along with contributions from our own members will go far towards retiring the expense of these modifications.

Coyote Squadron is proud to take our aircraft to air shows in our local area.  The ability to show the younger generation the aircraft that their forefathers flew is a privilege that we take seriously.  Educating the younger generation about the men and women who served their nation in time of peace and war is an important duty.  Being able to show them the actual aircraft that they used and which are still in a flying capacity is what being in the Commemorative Air Force is all about.
