Fortunately, RAD Society has the ability to make this adaptive gear accessible and affordable.  Unfortunately, people who need specialized equipment to continue to play their way have great difficulty accessing this expensive adaptive gear.

Sadly, there are hundreds of thousands of people in Canada that do not have access to the outdoors or the specialized gear they need to get there. Luckily, 100% of your registration fee + donation in this years' 6th Annual RAD Polar Plunge [Saturday Feb. 19th, 2022] is going to help get one more person access to adaptive recreation! -- the RAD Gear Box, a 'shop' full of fun outdoor adaptive devices that humans can rent and loan for short-term fun or to try-it-before-they-buy-it. (One more person is an understatement!)

Please help us improve the lives of those with physical challenges one person at a time.

By providing this access we can help people who feel they have been left behind, who feel excluded by the current lack of support for healthy living (mentally and physically). With outdoor access and recreation individuals' sense of well-being improves, their physical fitness improves, and overall better health with an increased willingness to participate in their community surrounding them. These are just some of the positive outcomes of play.

RAD Society is launching a prototype GearBox, a rental adaptive gear hub and prototype, on Vancouver Island with the support of many community members and organizations. This shipping container will be the home of handcycles, all-terrain wheelchairs, things to access the beach and water, and the list goes on. COMING SOON TO A COMMUNITY NEAR YOU!

The RAD Polar Plunge was established six years ago to help fund the mission of a brand new registered charity, RAD Recreation Adapted Society. RAD aims at influencing communities to invest in inclusion, aspiring to create a world where individuals living with short-term or permanent mobility restrictions and disabilities have the opportunity and means to live independent, active (outdoor) lifestyles with friends and family regardless of financial circumstance.  By providing an inventory of adaptive outdoor sport and recreation equipment to those independent living humans who wish to play their way with their friends and family RAD is eliminating one of the largest barriers to mobility challenged individuals access to the outdoors, cost.

The price tag on adaptive equipment can reach anywhere from 10x to 100x the piece of  regular  able-bodied gear. By working as a community, raising awareness and funds to increase the availability of adaptive outdoor devices, we will get everybody outside playing together, keeping our communities healthy.
