What we do
In partnership with International Teams Canada, Lighthouse Projects brings education, clean water, meals and vocational training to people in Los Alcarrizos and Villa Altagracia, two communities in the Dominican Republic with poor infrastructure and employment opportunities.
With an unemployment rate of 72% in Villa Altagracia, our neighbours are struggling to make ends meet. That's why the Lighthouse Project has constructed a vocational school that will teach students employable skills and give them a better chance at making a living and pulling themselves and their families out of poverty.
Progress
We are proud to already have two classrooms on the bottom floor of the Vocational School building running, offering classes including English, Electrical training, Beauty salon training, and French. Adding a roof to the building will allow for use of classrooms on the second floor (photos of second floor below) creating opportunities for 25 more youth to get skills to find jobs!
